With a strong desire for a low maintenance garden, this unique property has a personality all its own.
The vision was to create a ‘holiday house’ feel, paring back to the simple life. In keeping with the Scandinavian way of minimalist living, a simple expansive deck, built of natural, unstained cypress (weathered and greyed naturally), forms the base for various outdoor leisure activities.
The challenge of a very steep block was met with extensive excavations to manipulate existing banks in order to create a natural hilly outlook. The addition of large field granite rocks and the planting of over 250 bare root silver birches, along with a handful of Norway Spruce pines, established the beginnings of a small birch forest surrounding the home.
